Significant Six Sigma Components: DMAIC And DMADVThe DMAIC Six Sigma method which stands for Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control is a tool used to measure defect metrics commonly applicable as an effective business management strategy on an already existing business process. In other words, this will serve as your means of evaluation and an attempt to improve the method or process you’re already using. This metric assessment method was first introduced and applied by the Motorola Company during the 1980s. So far it had proven to improve and enhance profitability and had help stimulate business operations when applied. The DMAIC method is easy if you know how to handle the steps involved in the process. In this method for example, all you have to do is know what’s behind the definition of the acronyms it stands for: D or Define, for instance, is the step where you need to identify your specific goals relating the essential relations between the demands of the consumers and the business strategy a company or your business uses. Following that, there’s M or Measure, which is a step significantly used to accurately identify whether the defects are increasing or decreasing. The measurements can be done by compiling data that will be used to compare the evaluations and its progress. The third step is to A or Analyze. This is very essential since here is where you’ll analyze the causality of the factors that affect the company’s management and production. It is very crucial that during this step, the relationship between the factors is studied since this is where you’ll create the steps and procedures that you’ll be using for the next step and in your further studies in the future. The letter I means Improve, which also is the step where you’ll be applying the necessary improvements that you’ve come up with after the analysis stage. The essential point in this step is to make sure that the enhancements applied is really working on reducing the defects or errors from the previous production process. The last step, C is Control. This is easy. After all the upgrades and solutions, what’s left is to make sure that the new enhancements are followed accordingly. In this step, it literally means to control the process starting from the manufacturing or production, to delivery and other services being offered in your business. DMAIC correlates with the DMADV tool. The only difference here is that last two letters stands for Design and Verify. This tool is used mostly in the beginning of design creations. So what happens is that, after you’ve defined the requirements or needs that your design team is after, you’ll have to measure the causality of whatever relates to your design, analyze how to execute it, make the final design, and then verify if it works and that’s it. You now have both tools ready for your use. Comments |
