A Legacy For Dakota

Have you heard the song; "I Hope You Dance"? It is by Lee Ann Womak. I love that song. When I hear it, it always reminds me of my son, Dakota. It is an older song, but I still hear it occasionally. Some of the things she sings about, are wishes every mother has for her child.

She sang this for her two daughters, and it really touches my heart. Some of the lines are, "I hope you never settle for the path of least resistance, loving might be a mistake but its worth taking, don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter, when you come close to selling out reconsider, may you never take one single breath of anger, and of coarse when you get the chance to sit it out or dance, dance.

It doesn't go exactly in that order and there is a lot more advice a mother would want her child to take, but I can't write it all.

It is a powerful and wonderful song.

What do I want for my own child?

He makes my existence worthwhile.

The one I would live and die for, without taking a second thought. For Dakota:

I hope you will always keep your sense of humor.

I hope you will always know friends in every stage of your life.

I hope you will always know the importance of the relationships you make.

I hope you will never allow hurt or anger to lead you in any direction or situation.

I hope you will always forgive with all of your heart, and be given the same in return.

I hope you will know what true love is.

I hope you will fall in love, more than once.

I hope you will know the love of having your own children.

I hope you will never just accept what life throws at you.

I hope you will always strive to be your very best.

I hope you are proud of who you are and have become, as I always have been (of you).

I hope you will never allow self-doubt to hold you back.

I hope you know you will always have a place to call home.

I hope you know I always tried my best.

I hope you will always see the good in people.

I hope you will always know God and Jesus.

I hope you never lose your smile.

I hope you never feel alone.

I hope that you know until the day you die, that I love you more than my own life and I am so PROUD to be your mom,

I am very proud of you, son.
