How to Make a Mirror Rosary

The word rosary is derived from the Latin word “rosarium” which means “a garden of roses” or “a bunch of roses”. It has been named after the miraculous symbolism to the rose flower of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In Catholic Mariology and marian dogma, it is a belief that when Mary assumed into heaven, rose petals were mysteriously found on her sickbed. Also, in her apparitions such as in Lourdes and Fatima, Mary was seen to have been crowned with rose flowers.

This association of Mary to the rose flower has contributed to the propagation of the rosary as an important Catholic tool. When an individual wants to meditate on the lives of Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary it will be easier to use the rosary. Most devotees of the rosary professed an experience of walking a direct path to God’s salvation alongside the Son and His Mother.

In the Christian legend, the rosary is believed to be given by Mary herself to Saint Dominic in an apparition. This claim, though not supported with historical records and evidences, is officially claimed by the Roman Catholic Church. Other religious scholars believe that the rosary was an evolution of the Jewish prayer beads. It is also interesting to note that Muslims have the mashaba and the Buddhists have the Mala ahich are both forms of memory aids in praying.

The popularity of the rosary has been infused in the Christian world. Today, we have a lot of variations such as the chaplets, servites, Anglican, Irish, and other forms of rosaries that would cater to special needs of rosary devotees. Also there are novel variations such as rosary rings, bracelets, cord, and even mirror rosaries.

A mirror rosary is both decorative and religious. Aside from it is great for the eye, it will also remind us to pray. Either in your home mirror or your car, it will help us to remember to lift to our God our appeals either for safety, protection or support.

There are other variations of mirror rosaries. There is the dimple rosary which you can place in a car rear view mirror that would offer you comfort during long travels or heavy traffic. Some mirror rosaries are made of elastic cords that will let you easy hanging and turn into a pocket rosary. Just make sure to create your mirror rosary just right so that it will not be an obstruction while you drive.

In making a mirror rosary, you will need a thin yet durable cord, 59 beads, and a crucifix appropriate for the size of your beads. In making your very own car rosary, just follow these steps.

1.) Make a knot on one end of the cord leaving a 5-inch hanging. Thread in two beads and secure them with a knot.

2.) Thread a large bead into your string and add two smaller beads. Continue beading one large and two small beads until you have five large beads and at least six smaller beads on your loop.

3.) Untie the knot on the end of your loop and take both ends. Thread the hole in the last large bead.

4.) Add five small beads onto the loop and push them firmly until they rest onto the large bead.

5.) Thread the crucifix to the cord. Trim the excess cord and you are finished!
