And it’s more likely to happen that you go happen with nothing in hand and just confused as ever, you an even add a dash of frustration along with your mixed feelings.

Power generator shopping shouldn’t be all that difficult. Just by following some of these tips, you will be able to gauge your needs and come up with a list to narrow down the choices and finally choose one that will work for you. Here are the basics:

• First and foremost, you have to understand your electrical needs. The main purpose of your power generator is to provide you with electricity, if you’re in a tight budget, then list down all the appliances that you will need to use if a power outage occurs. The smaller power output you need, the cheaper the power generator you will have to purchase. Typically, a normal home with a medium size area, about a thousand to three thousand square feet will require about three to five thousand watts of power output. This can already cover your lights and basic appliances. But then again, if you’re going to use the fridge, air conditioner, TV, computer and more, then all you have to do is add up the wattages they require, add it all up, and get a power generator that will be able to provide them with sufficient energy.

• Another consideration is the size, the noise it generates and your ability to store it. You should be able to have a place where you can store it and keep it away from the elements, such as rain, dust, and debris, which may otherwise damage it. Power generators are noisy so you should determine whether you can store it away from your home, and from your neighbor’s peace and quiet .Also, if you want a power generator that’s portable, check if they are lightweight and has wheels for easy transportation.

• The fuel of your power generator is also of utmost importance. Some are cheaper, some more efficient, others are better for the environment, and some are more available in your area. List down the pros and cons of each type of fuel. Also, check out how large the fuel tank of your power generator so you can have an estimate of how long before you will be required to refuel it.

• You should also check how much outlets you need. Don’t take the chance of overloading your power generator or using octopus outlets which are dangerous. It should also have circuit breakers which will shut off the generator to lower the risk of potential danger and damages.
