Today, modern of methods of rearing livestock have increased production and efficiency. Livestock also provide valuable by-products as fur, hair, leather and wool. These materials are used to produce blankets, brushes, clothing, shoes, and other goods that are sold mainstream. Manufacturers use the hoofs and horns of livestock to make buttons, combs, glue, and knives. Other livestock by-products are used by the preparation of livestock feed. Some of the glands and organs of certain livestock are used to make drugs like epinephrine, insulin, and pepsin. Processed animal fat, called tallow, can be made into livestock feed, shortening, and soap. Some manufacturers also used the feathers of ducks and geese in making insulated clothing and bedding. Every year, livestock deposit tons of body wastes that fertilize the soil. This organic fertilizer increases the growth and food production of many plants. Through the years, automated farm equipment has reduced the use of horses as working animals in most parts of the world. Today, people in developed countries use horses primarily for recreation and for racing and sports. Livestock really have many uses and people benefits from it a lot.
