Does the Internet Influence BullyingThe answer is no. It just so happens that there are some sick people online who have nothing to do but decide to inflict harm to other people. But what is cyber bullying? This is when people decide to hurt someone based on their gender or physical attributes. Since the person being victimized has nowhere to go, there have been some reports that suggest that there is a link between this type of behavior and teenage suicides. The biggest challenge in decreasing the incidents of cyber bullying is the fact that it is hard to regulate. This is because a lot of parents don’t check up on their kids when they decide to go online thinking that nothing could happen to them when they are sitting in front of the computer but then they are mistaken. If you don’t want this to happen to your kids, it is best to do something about it. One thing you can do is monitor what sites and who do your kids talk to when they are online. It will also be a good idea to put the computer in the center of the house so you can walk by and see what they are doing on the web. If you are open with your children, talk to them about this issue and make them tell you if anyone is harassing them online or through their mobile phone. This is because cyber bullying also occurs in the form of SMS so no one is safe even if the computer is turned off. Should your children start receiving them, tell them to ignore it because if they react to it, more people will get in and gang up on them. It will probably be a good idea to change their accounts and mobile number so whoever is responsible won’t be able to get in touch with them again. But if the bullying continues, get in touch with the authorities and print out that emails and other hurtful messages. Cyber bullying is now considered a crime in many states and with the evidence, those who are responsible can be prosecuted. The internet was never meant to hurt anyone. If you ask those who made it, none of them will say that this was in their when they created it. Who is to blame? Well the people who decided to use it in that fashion. If somebody does it and others do the same, then those individuals are influenced by the one who actually started it. With that, you can’t blame those who created this technology. The one you should go after are those lurking in cyber space. As parents, it is up to us to teach our children how to protect themselves in school and online. It is also our duty to make sure that they don’t bully others as well because it is wrong and no one should have to go through it. So back to the question, does the internet influence bullying? The answer is definitely no. Comments |
