UMTS and 3GDefining UMTS UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telephone System. It is one of the 3G or third generation mobile systems created and developed inside the framework of the ITU IMT-2000. It presents the new generation of broadband multi-media mobile telecommunications technology. The area covered by service providers will be on a global scale, through the FLMTS type or Future Land Mobile Telecommunications Services. This is now known as IMT2000.
