Why 3D TV Paves The Way For The New Era In GamingWhile it's true that the market is not yet ripe for the 3D TV takeover, there are a lot of signs that indicate it's only just a matter of time. Some consumers remain dubious about the marketability of 3D TV, and rightly so for a lot of reasons. One of them being the cost of the TV sets, not to mention that the amount of programs that make use of the technology is still scarce. It's also unclear whether enough people are willing to spend extra money to enjoy 3D content at home. Furthermore, not many people can afford it yet since the cost of 3D TV sets is 50% higher than the standard HDTV sets, and we haven't even mentioned the glasses that cost between $60 and $200 per pair. The big corporations, however, still remain optimistic. It all started with the release of Samsung 3D TV's. Its competitors, such as Sony and Panasonic, have also announced the release of their own versions in the very near future. A good sign indeed, since a tight competition between these corporations giants can only mean that the price of the 3D TV's is meant to go down. Speculations have been made on what will set the ball rolling for the 3D TV revolution, but I'll make a case for video games. Video games are an interactive form of entertainment. This is why video games and 3D TV go very well together. Can you just imagine playing Call of Duty in a way that makes you feel that you're actually in the game itself? In fact, it will feel so real that you can almost smell the scent of cordite while the guns are blazing. Quite simply, combining video games with 3D TV is akin to a perfect marriage. As far as developments go, Sony has made an announcement confirming the release of a new firmware update specifically meant to make older PS3 games compatible for 3D. At this juncture, it's fair to attest that more 3D TV compatible titles are on their way to being released for the PS3 console. And it comes as no surprise that the folks in Microsoft are also cooking up something big in terms of keeping up with the 3D TV revolution. In fact, Xbox global marketing boss Albert Penello said that Xbox 360 was "technically" ready for the 3D revolution. It should be interesting to see which company will win the race for video game supremacy once all the 3D TV-compatible products from both Sony and Microsoft arrive in full force. But one thing's for sure, whoever comes out on top, we, the gamers are the true winners. Comments |
